« We’re just a group of neighbourhood residents who want to make improvements to public space, and the streets are the biggest part of our public space. »
- Mathieu Vick

****************************************

Car Free Mile-End invites you all to the first ever Journée de bons voisins. Saturday, July 17th from 11am to 6pm, the segment of rue St-Viateur Ouest between Jeanne-Mance and St-Urbain will be opened to the community as a multi-active pedestrian zone.

Support local artisans at our Marché Artisanal and meet members of a host of community organizations at our Info-Marché. Join in a range of activities for all ages including salsa, hula-hoops, chalk drawing and more.

Bring your lawn chairs, parasols, kiddie pools, guitars, house plants, etc. and take advantage of our public space.

funny how every generation thinks they invented the wheel. we had a festival called gesture for peace in the eighties it lasted seven years and migrated to lafontaine park and jeanne mance park until it died beautifully in the late eighties. it promoted similar issues as this one does. peace thru multiculturalism. neighbours meeting neighbours.
personally i do not favour turning st. viateur into a walking street because such a movement does not take into consideration what the neighbourhood really wants and is prepared to do. the greening of the mile end would be a better idea. green rooves and solar panels are the kind of things that i would encourage.
the expropriation of the jean jean jean building and the eviction of its tenants is a sign of what we can expect will happen if we try to work with a city that has one basic reason for existing and that is to expand its tax base by making the neighborhood palatable to wealthy citizens at the expense of the less fortunate who originally settled here simply because it was cheap and not like the rich to exploit an exploitive real estate system.
