Any info on when the chinese-style "doors" to the quartier were installed, who made them, etc.? How about the quartier itself? I'd like to learn more about how it came to be.

The north and south gates on St.Laurent where donated by Shanghai in 1998 to mark the resiliency of the neighbourhood. I don't know the history of the la Gauchetiere gates.

Something to do with the Bourque administration, I believe. I know he did "foreign policy" junkets in Shanghai.

Note that this picture, with parking lots and wide roads, is pretty culturally authentic, as China seems to be going crazy for cars these days! Great
