This hotel was built in anticipation of Expo 67.
I love the 60's space pod and hope that this will someday be remodelled into something a little 'groovier'.
I thought this was the Seaway Motel from the early '60s. I knew the Seaway Motel in Toronto and I remarked to myself that this must be a related motel in Montreal.
This would have been a great building for a now/then picture. Anyone have a pic with the humongous pastel-coloured boat on the western side of the building?
Are we going to debate this dump EVERY year?
The spaceship looks like it should rise up into the air a-la Jetsons.

I remember when my brother and sister-in-law had their wedding reception in the space pod many years ago, back in the age of Aquarius... This photo does not convey how délabré it looked the last time I passed by.
Can anyone explain to me what it means for a building to "speak to the street" and "maintain dialogue with the intersection"? I am not an architect so I'm not too sure how to read this.
The vast majority of people hate this building. I think it is a fabulous mid-century design with interesting details. It is also successful in the way it speaks to the street and maintains a dialogue with the intersection.
If it weren't branded like a cheap motel with 1980's finishings, it could be a very cool boutique hotel. Especially if the interiors stayed true to the original period.
