My roommate isn't going to be happy about this. I introduced him to Harvey's awhile ago (obviously, they don't exist in Mexico) and he has fallen irrational in love with their veggie burgers. The fact that a Harvey's once existed 2 blocks from our house isn't going to go over well with him!
Maria, are you talking about the churro place? Those churros are the best in Montreal by a long shot! I'm not such a fan of their empanadas though.
Yes, the churro place. Funny, I rather like their empanadas. I pretty much don't eat sugar so no churros for me! Of course my own empanadas are better ... I do cheat and buy the tapas, available at many places in Villeray and Petite Patrie, including the former Andes on Bélanger and Boucherie St-Viateur at the corner of Beaubien and Casgrain. Homemade empanadas make one a VERY popular party guest.
There is a rather odd Balkan shop, called "Balkan" (as opposed to Balkani at JTM) at the corner of St-Hubert and Castelnau.
Fagstein lives near you too.
Yeah, I walk by that Balkan shop every day but have never gone in. They seem to specalise in meats and probably obscure European foodstuffs more than anything.
Kate McDonnell who runs the Montreal City Weblog also lives near us as well. Not sure where but someplace in Villeray I think. I also found another blogger from the back-end of the site (who was linking back to a story about Villeray) who lives a few blocks away from me (on de Castleneau I think). His blog is at http://superbon.net. Villeray is a popular place for people who write for blogs it seems!
Oui, c'est sympa. Un ancien fastfood (Harvey?) devenu un petit resto asiatique (vietnamien, je crois). Toujours à prix modeste, et autrement plus sain.
Juste au sud de la rue Faillon, du même côte de la rue St-Hubert, il y a un petit comptoir latino-américain qui fait de très bonnes empanadas.
À Ottawa, rue Dalhousie près du marché Byward, un ancien PFK est devenu un petit resto portugais: Casa do Churrasco. Oui, il y a toujours du poulet (entre autre) au menu, mais grillé, pas pané et passé à la grande friture. Encore une fois, le nouveau restaurant pratique touours des prix plutôt modiques, mais c'est un resto tenu par une famille. http://casadochurrasco.tripod.com/
