I've always found it interesting and funny that the former Presbyterian College became the Islamic Studies Building for McGill.
If I'm not mistaken, that beautiful building is now the McGill University Islamic Studies Centre (not just the religion, but also history, philosophy etc of the Muslim world). It is a lovely place to study.
I think it's also called Morris Hall? It (re)opened while I was still a student and I used to go there to read. I got some funny looks from some of the Islamic students, but other than that, no hassles.
BTW, the Aga Khan's foundation footed the bill for the renovation. And Trudeau, his bud, played some role in making this happen, as I recall.
I was in the Arts Building the day the Aga Khan showed up for the opening. Lotsa security. I remember being at the front desk of Moyse when one of the Khan's men, a very professional bodyguard type, asked for his "Supreme Holiness"'s car to be brought round. I think I made a face, Mr. Big Shot Angry Young Man that I was.

Your early photos of Montreal show many power lines as seen in this photo.
Especially interesting is your image from Feb. 8, 2009 "La rue McGill depuis la rue St-Paul" dated 1869. Do you know why so many lines? I think electricity and wiring became common at turn of century.
