Place-Based Election Posters

Despite the general feelings of aggravation at being faced with yet another election this fall, this poster for Green Party candidate Peter McQueen deserves a mention for the way it makes local issues so tangible. Located on the corner of De Maisonneuve blvd and Addington in NDG, the arrow to the left points at the bike path, and the arrow to the right points to a new exit of the Décarie expressway that remains closed.
The unused exit is part of the traffic plan for the new MUHC superhospital to be located behind Vendome metro. Peter McQueen's Defend NDG website proposes an alternate traffic plan that would route traffic generated by the hospital more equally between NDG and Westmount streets.

McQueen is absolutely right on with his critique of the upcoming road disaster that is planned for NDG.
If you live in that area you'd do well to vote for Peter, he's a serious candidate. He set the record for most votes by a Quebec provincial Green candidate last time around and I could see him building on that. The Liberals are clearly not acting in the interests of the people of the area, particularly those in the southern part of NDG.
oh my, a new low in political advertizing. *sigh*
Why is this in English only? Sure, I know there are a lot of anglophones in NDG (and this has nothing to do with Law 101, as it isn't a commercial sign) but isn't it rather odd for them not to include a French version. NDG is in Québec, after all, and I know francophones who live there.
That particular bicycle path might not be a provincial responsibility, but in the interest of the environment and health, provincial funding of bicycle paths should be seen as a priority.
Finally, transportation issues are being addressed as a provincial election issue. As roads and highways are both municipal and provincial issues, no single cadre of politicians are ever held accountable for it.
The issue of the misguided Turcot Interchange reconstruction (as well as the Notre-Dame expansion) need to be recognized as important issues for all Montrealers.
Maria- when i took the picture on Monday, the French version was on the west-facing side of the poster. However, when I passed by again after work today, I noticed that the sign has been changed around so that it is bilingual in both directions. Coincidence???
Although to be fair, I don't think that the bike path is a provincial responsability, and there HAVE been some improvements to the visibility given to bike lanes in the area around Vendome metro.
