Toronto Tuesday: The Bike Film Fest, ROM Rooftop Garden, and What We Think of the Gardiner

Each Tuesday, Spacing Montreal will share with you some posts from our sister blog, Spacing Toronto. We hope it will enable constructive dialogue on the urban issues faced by both cities, though we’ll settle for some witty jibes against la Ville reine in the comments.
Bike Film Festival: This year 17 cities worldwide had the chance to explore a filmic celebration of bikes. This past weekend, the festival’s films graced the screen of The Royal cinema, located on College Street in Toronto’s Little Italy.
ROM Rooftop Garden Preview: Matthew Hague gets a sneak peak at the construction of a rooftop garden situated on top of the Royal Ontario Museum’s original 1914 structure. While this creation could be seen as a balance to the building’s jarring edifice, its value as such is diminished by the fact that it will only be seen by the patron’s of CV, the ROM’s fine dining restaurant. The spate of reader responses centers around discussion of how apparent private funding ought to be in the design of a public building.
Poll: Your Thoughts on Tearing Down the Gardiner: The future of Toronto’s Gardiner Expressway is controversial, to say the very least. On June 20th, Spacing readers had the chance to get their views on the topic heard. So far, the poll’s results indicate that most Spacing readers believe either that plans to tear down a portion of the expressway are a good start, or that it should be demolished altogether.
