Art is one of those essential urban ingredients that is too often overlooked or dismissed ("Why do we need art in the metro? I just want to get from point A to B!"). But it gives us a universally engaging way to ask questions about ourselves, our cities and our relationship to public space.

You'll get your chance to explore this topic on January 22nd, when UQAM's urban studies department hosts a presentation by architect, urbanist and professor Denis Proulx on urban art in Montreal. Here's a short description:

Proulx's presentation is part of UQAM's URBA 2015 series of conferences. Space is limited, so save your place by emailing urba2015@uqam.ca. More information is available at the program's website.

Any idea if the presentation will be given in english or french?

Eli, the presentation will be in French.

From what I read, I guess the presentation will be more related to urban design than public art. It's "art urbain" in the sense used by the people at Séminaire Robert Auzelle (arturbain.fr).
